Apple recognizes the right to repair of iPhone and Mac consumer owners.

Apple announces that it is making Parts, Tools, and Manuals available so iPhone and Mac owners can exercise their right to self-repair products they own.

Before, apple was opposed to consumers being able to repair their products, and due to many criticisms and regulations that protect this right of consumers, it has recognized this right.

Available first for the iPhone 12 and iPhone 13 lines, and they will soon be followed by Mac computers with M1 chips.

When?

 Self Service Repair will be available early next year in the US and will expand to other countries throughout 2022.

What spare parts will be available?

The initial phase of the program will focus on the modules that receive the most services, such as the iPhone screen, battery and camera. The possibility of making additional repairs will be available at the end of next year.

How will it work?

To ensure that a customer can safely perform a repair, it is important that they first review the Repair Manual. A customer will then place an order for Genuine Apple Parts and Tools through Apple's Self-Service Repair Online Store. After the repair, customers who return their used part for recycling will receive a credit toward their purchase.

How many pieces will the Apple Parts Store sell?

The new store will offer more than 200 individual parts and tools, allowing customers to complete the most common repairs on the iPhone 12 and iPhone 13.

What else does the consumer's right to repair imply?

The right to repair also implies making products that are easy to open, and to remove and replace parts. Products glued, sealed, or with small bolts, or with parts that require welding violate the consumer's right to repair.

The pieces have to be easy to disconnect and connect.

Will Apple recognize the right not to use genuine spare parts?

Some of the questions that may remain about the right to repair is whether Apple will recognize the right to use compatible replacement parts from other brands. And if The price of original Apple products will be reasonable to make the right to repair of consumers viable.
