To get married in Queens it is a fundamental requirement to first obtain a marriage license. A marriage license in Queens is obtained from the city clerk's office.

To obtain a marriage license in Queens, you must be over 18 years of age.
The fee to be paid as a requirement for the marriage license is $ 35.00.

It is a requirement that you make an application which is an affidavit in which you and your future spouse must include the following information as a requirement:
your name; current address; city, state, zip code and country; Country of birth; date of birth; name and country of birth of your parents; Social Security number; and marital history.
When you sign the affidavit, you are making an affidavit that there are no legal impediments to the marriage.
If you were married before, you are required to list all previous marriages. You must include the full name of your former spouse; the date the divorce decree was granted; and the city, state, and country where the divorce was issued.

• Non-driver identification card with photo (from the United States of America or any of its territories)
• Learning permit with photography (from the United States of America or any of its territories)
• Active United States military identification card
• Passport, for foreigners who do not have another appropriate identification.
• Certificate of naturalization from the United States (valid for 10 years after the date of issue)
• Permanent resident card of the United States
• United States employment authorization card

It is also a requirement of state law that you have documentation proving your age. Since all forms of proper identification are also acceptable proof of age, holders of proper identification will not need additional documentation.

Blood test is not required


The license is valid for 60 days.


Couples can now apply for a marriage license in person or online at www.nyc.gov/cupid. In-person marriage licenses are issued by appointment only and couples must arrive on time. Late arrivals may not be accepted.

Steps to obtain a marriage license:

• First step, Before your appointment, start the application process to receive a marriage license online through "City Clerk Online"
• Second step, you and your future spouse must complete the application process by showing up at the City Clerk's Office for a scheduled appointment in person or virtually, together and at the same time.
• Third step, Your marriage license will be processed.
• Fourth step, You must read your marriage license carefully to make sure there are no mistakes.
• Fifth step, you will take the Marriage License from the office or you will receive it by digital download in your Cupid account after a virtual appointment.
• Step Six, You must wait a full 24 hours before your marriage ceremony can take place, unless you get a court waiver. Note: Contact the New York State Supreme Court for information on the availability of waivers.
