1.- What do I need to get married in Georgia?

If you want to get married in Georgia, you'll need a marriage license . County probate courts grant marriage licenses to couples.

 

2.- Where can I get married?

Any Georgia resident may apply for a license in any county in Georgia. However, if neither applicant is a resident of Georgia, you may only obtain your license in the county where the ceremony is performed.

 

3.- What is the validity of the marriage license?

The license does not have an expiration date.

 

4.- What are the requirements?

Both parties must be present in order to obtain a marriage license. Pre-marital blood test results are no longer required in the State of Georgia.

 

You must be at least 18 years of age with legal documents to prove your age. If you've been divorced, you may need a copy of your divorce decree. 

 

5.- What types of identification are accepted?

You must have proof of age by presenting one of the following:

 

·         Valid driver’s license

·         Original or certified copy of birth certificate

·         Valid passport

·         Valid military ID

 

6.- What is the WAITING PERIOD?

The good news is there is no waiting period in Georgia, which means you can get married as soon as you get your marriage license.

 

7.- How much does the marriage license cost?

The marriage license fee is: $56.00 (cash/credit/debit) or

$16 only if you provide to the court a Certificate of Completion for a Qualified Premarital Education Program. Premarital education must be completed within 12 months prior to the application of the marriage license and the couple must undergo the education together.

 

8.- Who can perform a marriage ceremony?

Licensed or ordained ministers, clergymen, or pastors of recognized religious societies, and justices of the peace.
